A motivation chart keeps track of all the actions you take to reach your goals. A motivation chart is really useful because IT DOESN’T CARE WHAT GOAL YOU WANT TO REACH, it doesn’t care that you want a clean house, or to get fit, or to do well in your education. A motivation chart ONLY CARES ABOUT WHAT ACTIONS YOU TAKE TO GET THERE.
This may seem simple -
Think about it. Your goal may be to get fit. How fit? Where are you starting from? What time do you have? What level of commitment do you have? Your motivation chart doesn’t care, IT ONLY TRACKS WHAT YOU DO.
Your goal is important, so are your reasons for getting there and the level you are
at and the level you want to reach. You have to work through those first in order
to work out the actions you need to take. Once you know the actions needed -
A hand drawn explanation of how to create your own motivation chart is available.
First decide what your goal is. No, this is NOT the same as “First catch your hare”! What do you want to do? Get fit? Have a clean house? Do your homework or revision before you get punished? Keep your finances in order? Get out to work on time each day? Reduce weight, or stop smoking?
WRITE YOUR GOAL HERE ......................................
Now, what actions do you need to take to reach that goal? For instance, to get fit, you might decide to climb 6 flights of stairs in work each day, or use your exercise cycle for 10 minutes every morning. To have a clean house, you might decide to make your bed each day and wash the dishes after a meal. It is important to be able to say WHAT ACTION you will take and WHEN and to track the action you are taking.
This is where a motivation chart comes in handy. Decide on your action, write it down on the motivation chart and check it off EVERY TIME you achieve that action.
